RENIC participates in ANUIES-ICT Panel

What have been the main vulnerabilities and threats detected within your institutions as a result of the health emergency?

What impact have you observed in the analysis and development of cybersecurity models and methodologies within your institution in the face of the evident changes in the use of ITs produced by COVID 19?

What do you consider to be the main lines of research that should be strengthened in the face of new cybersecurity threats and exponential use of ITs?

What kind of cyber-risk scenarios should we contemplate in the so-called new normality, in order to be able to define appropriate protection mechanisms and propose innovative and disruptive improvements within our institutions?

On October 29th, the panel THE CHALLENGES OF HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS FACING THE REALITY OF COVID 19: A LOOK AT RESEARCH IN CYBERSECURITY came to answer these questions and in which RENIC participated, took place virtually and within the framework of the ANUIES-ICT meeting. The panel was moderated by Dr. Gabriel Sánchez Pérez, Research Professor at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional ESIME Culhuacán, with the participation of experts including:

  • Dr. Pablo Velarde Alvarado, Professor-Researcher at the Academic Unit of Basic Sciences and Engineering of the Autonomous University of Nayarit.
  • Dr. (C) Darío Medina Ramírez, Professor and Researcher in different institutions.
  • Mtro. Francisco Javier López Muñoz, President of Spanish Network of Excellence on Cybersecurity Research (RENIC).
  • Dr. Aldo Hernández Suárez, Professor in cybersecurity programmes at the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of the IPN.
  • Mtro. Álvaro Iván Parres Peredo, Director of the Department of Electronics, Systems and Computer Science at ITESO.

The panellists shared their views on how the covid-19 crisis affected cybersecurity research within their institutions and the impact that the increased use of ICTs has had on cybersecurity, as well as suggested recommendations for dealing with what is to come.
